#CommunityLove: Open The Lace Curtains
We here at Home Love Hamilton are very much looking forward to the 14 annual Hamilton Fringe Festival show “Open The Lace Curtains” which is running as part of the annual festival, which runs July 20th to 30th here in Hamilton. For those of you who have yet to attend, Hamilton Fringe is a 10 day festival celebrating dance, comedy, magic shows, drama, and family entertainment in more than 300 performances in downtown Hamilton.
“Open the Lace Curtains is a one woman show written and performed by local storyteller Marianne Daly and directed by Jennifer Walton. Family secrets must stay hidden behind the lace curtains so everything looks lovely from the outside. Until she felt the empowerment that comes from sharing her stories on the stage, Marianne believed she would never have the courage to reveal what had stayed in the dark for so long. By taking on characters from her past, Marianne gives the audience a glimpse behind the Lace Curtain. A fourth generation Hamiltonian, she is proud of her city and of her Irish Catholic roots. But these roots are entangled in rage, illness, and shame. Marianne lets the light in to help heal family wounds that are generations deep.
Open the Lace Curtains was workshopped originally as part of Tracey Erin Smith’s Soulo Theatre show at The Staircase Theatre in Hamilton. Marianne has a long history at The Staircase as part of the improv community. She has been a featured storyteller at The Six Minute Memoirs and Steel City Stories at Super Crawl 2016. Marianne has shown her support for the Hamilton Fringe Festival in the past by serving as a community reviewer for Raise the Hammer. Open the Lace Curtains is directed by Jennifer Walton. Jennifer directed the Best of Fringe 2016 production of The Tragedy of Othella Moore. She is Co-Director of The Creative Theatre Company, teaching acting to talented young people for more than 25 years. Jennifer is also a playwright whose work has been featured in the Little Black Dress Ink Onstage Women’s Theatre Festival in the U.S. for the last two years. She is also a performer, storyteller, and co-founder of Therapeutic Clowns Hamilton.”
